Dev Deepawali 2022: The city older than time, Varanasi is all set to celebrate Dev Deepawali on November 7 this year. After the iconic celebration of Deepotsav this Diwali, one of the holiest cities in India, is geared up to light up once again. On this auspicious day, when gods are believed to come down to the city, it is illuminated with diyas on the holy ghats. Indeed, a sight to behold.

Dev Deepwali is being celebrated a day earlier than Kartik Purnima which is on November 8 due to Chandra graham or lunar eclipse. Usually it coincides with Kartik Purnima.
Dev Deepawali : History
Hindu mythology is a treasure of inexhaustible lores. One such story is about the demon Tarakasura.
The festival is known as Dev Deepawali because Gods mark Deepawali/Diwali on this day after Lord Shiva defeated the demon Tripurasura. The locals wake up early in the morning and take a dip in the holy water of river Ganga. As the day progresses, people light diyas by the banks and on the ghats, and offer their obeisance to Lord shiva in the evening.

All the temples, specially, Kashi Vishwanath floral decor, is decked up for the celebration of Dev Deepawali. Temples are adorned with lights and ghats are ready to enlighten the aura with earthen diyas.
Reportedly, this year, there will be a 3D projector that will project on the ghats. Approximately over 10 lakh diyas will light up the banks of river Ganga.
